Drug Formulation

4 liang of Qianghuo, 4 liang of Duhuo, 4 liang of Fangfeng, 4 liang of Ma Huang, 4 liang of Weilingxian, 4 liang of Guizhi, 4 liang of Processed Chuanwu, 4 liang of Processed Caowu, 4 liang of Sanling, 4 liang of Peng’e Shu, 4 liang of Danggui, 4 liang of Red Peony Root, 4 liang of Wuyao, 4 liang of Qin Jiao, 4 liang of Raw Xiangfu, 4 liang of Bai Zhi,Peach Kernel 4 liang, Cardamom 2 liang, Changshan 4 liang, Rhubarb 4 liang, Areca Nut 2 liang, Safflower 4 liang, Dried Ginger 4 liang, Processed White Aconite 2 liang, Acanthopanax Bark 4 liang, Raw Rehmannia 4 liang, Stiff Silkworm 4 liang, Whole Scorpion 4 liang (the above constitute Group A herbs), Musk 1 qian,Asafoetida 2 liang, Cinnamon Bark 1 liang, White Pepper 1 liang, Cloves 5 qian, Guangxi Frankincense 5 qian, Processed Frankincense 1 liang, Processed Myrrh 1 liang, Galanga 1 liang, Storax 1 liang (the above constitute Group B herbs).

Processing

Soak the herbs in Group A in 50 jin of sesame oil for one day. Simmer over low heat until the herbs are completely dried out, remove the residue, and filter the liquid. Continue simmering until a drop of the liquid forms a bead when held up to the light. Add 19 jin of Dongdan (roasted until hot), incorporating it gradually while stirring until thoroughly mixed, yielding approximately 53 jin of ointment.When spreading the ointment, add the herbs from Group B (ground into powder) and the Suhe oil (melted), and mix thoroughly. Each sheet, including the skin, weighs 1 liang for the larger ones and 6 qian for the smaller ones.
