Drug Formulation

48 liang of yellow丹, 5 jin of sesame oil, 2 jin of lard, 1 jin of pine resin, 10 liang of mutton fat, 10 liang of beeswax, 10 liang of wild camel fat, 2 liang of Angelica sinensis,Black Snake 2 liang, Raw Dried Rehmannia 2 liang, Forsythia Flower 1 liang, Dipsacus Root 2 liang, White Angelica 1 liang, Dew-Covered Bee Hive 1 liang, Sichuan Aconite 1 liang (peel and navel removed), Asarum 1 liang, Thistle Needles 1 liang, Ligusticum Root 1 liang, Notopterygium Root 1 liang, Human Feces 1 liang (dried and burned to ash), Lithospermum Root 1 liang,1 liang of tiger shin bone, 1 liang of crucian carp scales, 1 liang of hedgehog skin, 1 liang of Datura seeds, 1 liang of Evodia fruit, 3 fen of white Polygonum, 3 fen of purple kudzu, 3 fen of Scrophularia root, 3 fen of mulberry wood ear, 3 fen of Akebia stem (chopped), 3 fen of apricot kernels (soaked in hot water to remove skin and tip), 7 chi of blue silk cloth,7 chi of crimson silk (burned until all smoke has dissipated), 3 fen of Atractylodes macrocephala, 3–7 stalks of scallions (with roots), 4 liang of locust tree branches, 4 liang of willow branches, 3 fen of Saposhnikovia divaricata (with root tips removed), 3 fen of white mulberry root bark, 3 fen of red peony root, and 3 fen of Cyperus rotundus.

Processing

For the above herbs, first render the pork lard, mutton fat, and wild camel fat in a pot to extract the oil. Add the willow branches, locust tree branches, thorn needles, scallions, lithospermum root, and dew-soaked bee hives to the rendered fat and simmer over low heat for half a day. Strain out the residue. Finely chop the remaining herbs and add them to the rendered oil, then simmer over low heat for another half day.Next, add pine resin wax and simmer for another half day. Strain out the residue, thoroughly wipe the pot clean, finely sift orpiment, roast it until it turns purple, and add it to the medicinal liquid while still hot.Stir continuously with a willow branch. Wait until the color turns purple and the mixture forms a paste, then remove from heat. Next, add 3 liang of realgar (finely ground), 3 liang of cloves, 4 liang of frankincense, 3 liang of agarwood, 3 liang of wood fragrant, 3 liang of cinnamon bark, 3 liang of qilin blood, and 3 liang of aconite root (with skin and pith removed). Pound and sift the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix it evenly into the paste, and store in a porcelain container.
