Drug Formulation

Preparation of the Umbilical Cord (Use 1 liang of white mulberry bark, 1 liang of paper mulberry seeds, 1 liang of hawthorn, 1 liang of barley malt, 1 liang of Shenqu, 1 liang of psoralea, 1 he of black sesame seeds, and 1 he of black beans. Decoct these 8 ingredients in equal parts wine and water; externally, wash the umbilical cord with wine, then soak it in the prepared decoction until softened.Then, chop them finely with a bamboo knife, remove the membranes, place them on a piece of earthenware lined with a lotus leaf, cover with another piece of earthenware, and dry slowly over low heat. Grind into a fine powder for future use. Jusheng Seeds: 5 liang (wash with wine, divide into 4 portions:roast one portion each of sesame seeds, radish seeds, glutinous rice, and white mustard seeds), 4 liang of sweet goji berries (stems and calyxes removed), 5 liang of raw rehmannia root (plump and heavy, sinking in water; washed with wine), 5 liang of prepared rehmannia root (plump and heavy, sinking in water; washed with wine), 5 liang of ophiopogon tuber (core removed),Atractylodes macrocephala 5 liang (1 portion stir-fried with earth, 1 portion with wheat bran, 1 portion with Shenqu, and 1 portion with Trifoliate Orange peel), Poria cocos (peel and inner membrane removed, soaked in milk, sun-dried) 5 liang, Cuscuta chinensis (washed with wine, soaked for one day and one night, steamed, pounded into cakes, and sun-dried) 4 liang,Ginseng (stem removed) 5 liang, Bi Zi Ren (roasted, shelled) 5 liang, Chinese Yam (soaked in ginger juice, roasted until dry) 4 liang, Cornus Officinalis (pitted) 5 liang, Cistanche (outer membrane removed, soaked in wine, sun-dried) 5 liang, Polygala (root removed, soaked in licorice and rush decoction, pitted) 2 liang,He Shou Wu (1 portion steamed in black bean juice, 1 portion steamed in salt water, 1 portion soaked in rice washing water, 1 portion soaked in vinegar) 8 liang, Deer Antler Powder 0.5 fen, Sichuan Morinda (washed in wine, core removed) 4 liang, Acorus Tatarinowii (root removed, lightly roasted) 2 liang, Angelica sinensis (washed in wine, root tip removed) 2 liang, Schisandra (stems removed) 2 liang,Chuan Niuxi (root tips removed, washed with wine, sun-dried) 4 liang, Sha Yuan Tribulus (roasted) 5 liang, Chuan Huanglian (stems removed, soaked in one portion of Evodia decoction, one portion of Wood Fragrance decoction, one portion of ginger juice, and one portion of wine; sun-dried) 3 liang, Sour Jujube Seeds (shells and skins removed, roasted) 2 liang.

Processing

Grind each of the above herbs into a fine powder. In spring, add ginger juice and bamboo sap; in summer, add Elsholtzia, papaya, and coix seed; in autumn, add ginger, tea, evodia, and sandalwood; in winter, add perilla, mint, Atractylodes, and magnolia bark to make a decoction, then mix with honey to form pills.
