Drug Formulation

Realgar (finely ground, swirled in hot water to remove impurities, then boiled to extract the residue) 1 liang; Aconite (raw, peeled and pitted, ground into powder) 1 liang; Agarwood powder half a liang; Wulingzhi powder half a liang; Dried ginger powder half a liang; Cinnamon (coarse bark removed, ground into powder) half a liang; Black pepper powder half a liang; Croton seed (peeled, inner membrane removed, ground) half a liang; Dried lacquer powder 3 fen.

Processing

Grind all ingredients except Croton seeds together until uniform; then add the Croton seeds and grind again until extremely fine. Mix with cooked jujube pulp to form a single mass. Wrap it in 3–5 layers of damp paper, seal it with a mixture of paper pulp and yellow earth to a thickness of about half a finger,Dry it over a fire. Use 10 jin of well-burned charcoal; on the morning of the Yi Chou day, gradually increase the heat until a fragrant aroma is released. Place it in a new earthenware container, allow it to cool, then remove it. Discard the charred paper ash. Pound the mixture until smooth, adjust the consistency as needed, then add cooked jujube pulp and pound for over a thousand strokes until the desired consistency is achieved. Form into pills the size of a paulownia seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 3 pills per dose, washed down with warm papaya wine; papaya soup may also be used, regardless of the time of day. For large masses, abdominal masses, or various cold-induced stabbing pains, or for diarrhea with pus and blood, take 5 to 7 pills before meals. Adjust the dosage according to the patient’s condition (deficiency or excess).
