Drug Formulation

1 liang of alum (melted in a jar over charcoal), 3 qian of gun-shao, 3 qian of borax.

Processing

Add the sodium carbonate and borax to the melted alum, mix thoroughly into finger-tip-sized lumps, and dissolve them layer by layer. Wait until the mixture spread across the jar’s rim resembles steamed buns, then use high heat to dry it completely. Cover the jar’s rim with a clean tile for one hour, remove it, and grind it into a fine powder. Mix in a small amount of ox bile and 6 spoons of borneol, then mix with water and drip the mixture onto the powder. Return it to the jar’s rim to dry thoroughly before use.
