Drug Formulation

2 liang of processed mugwort, 2 sheng of good vinegar, 1 fen of ground refined copper, 1.5 liang of white bark from the Chinese hackberry root (without the root; leaves may also be used), 1 liang of Schisandra seeds, 1 liang of Coptis (with the filaments removed), and 1 liang of rock salt.

Processing

Grind the six ingredients into a fine powder, place it in the vinegar, and simmer to reduce to 3 he. Strain out the residue and collect the liquid in a vessel made of annealed copper. Add 1 fen each of carp gallbladder and black chicken gallbladder, mix thoroughly, and then use a piece of acacia wood—peeled, 3 fingers wide, and 1 chi long—to grind the mixture in the sunlight without stopping. Continue until the mixture reaches the consistency of malt syrup, then stop.
