Drug Formulation

5 qian of croton seed, 5 qian of Bletilla striata (sliced), 5 qian of Strychnos nux-vomica (sliced), 5 qian of Sichuan Aconite (sliced), 5 qian of Wild Aconite (sliced), 10 liang of Phytolacca acinosa (sliced), 2 liang of Eupatorium fortunei, 2 liang of Epimedium sagittatum, 2 liang of Angelica sinensis (sliced), 2 liang of Pangolin scales (sliced), 2 liang of Scrophularia ningpoensis (sliced),dried toad skin (must be freshly harvested and dried) 2 liang, castor beans 3 liang, white lonicera (sliced) 3 liang, Sichuan rhubarb (sliced) 3 liang, male mouse feces 3 liang, cocklebur seeds 4 liang, yellow cow hoof (pounded and ground) 1 liang,pig hoof nails (crushed and ground) 1 liang, black sheep horns 1 pair (crushed and ground), crucian carp 2 (weighing 12 liang or more).

Processing

Place the above herbs in a large, wide pot with 3 jin 8 liang of pure sesame oil. Soak for 3 days, then simmer until the herbs turn charred black. Strain out the residue and bring the liquid back to a boil. Add 24 liang of finely sifted blood cinnabar. Stir continuously with locust and willow twigs until the mixture reaches the “dropping water forms a bead” consistency. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Then add 5 qian of cinnamon bark, 4 qian of frankincense,4 qian of myrrh, 4 qian of high-quality costus root (oil removed), and 4 qian of high-quality mercury oxide (all five ingredients ground into a fine powder and gradually mixed in). Stir thoroughly with copper chopsticks. Allow to solidify and cool, then place face down on the ground for over 10 days to completely remove any residual heat toxicity.
