Drug Formulation

1 qian of black plum, 3 qian of powdered bamboo worm (if unavailable, substitute with powdered common bamboo), 1 qian 5 fen of tooth tea (a product of Hua), 2 qian of white snake (soaked in wine, lightly roasted),1 qian 5 fen of Suoshu bark (the black variety and Na’e powder from Ge Wa should be harvested during midsummer; they are difficult to obtain in other months), 1 qian of mercury oxide (wrap in paper, place inside steamed glutinous rice, bake until cooked, then remove and use).

Grind the above ingredients into an extremely fine powder and form into pills the size of mung beans using rice paste.

Instructions for Use

Take 1 qian 6 fen every morning before breakfast, washed down with a decoction of red adzuki beans. After 5–6 days, the gums will turn black and blood will flow spontaneously. After a full 7 days, one should consume foods such as gourd, radish, winter melon, dried bonito, flounder, and (fish of the *Yuhao* genus), simmered in light miso broth. Subsequently, take White Snake Decoction.

Note

For 7 days, avoid poultry, meat, fish, soft-shelled turtles, salted foods, tea, and alcohol. Nourish the patient solely with plain rice porridge.
