Pill Decoction of Pinellia and Ten Herbs,Epidemic diseases. The body’s vital energy combines with heat, causing pain in the bones and flesh; the pulse is洪数 (full and rapid); the mouth feels bitter and parched; food intake leads to vomiting; the body’s vital energy becomes cool;the pulse becomes deep and fine; food is able to pass; pain and distress are no longer felt; both the large and small bowels are obstructed; the epigastrium feels as hard as stone, with pain so severe it cannot be touched; the lips appear taut and the nostrils flared; the hands and eyes dart about restlessly; and the patient utters delirious and nonsensical words. This is caused by extreme heat, followed by exposure to extreme cold; in diet, sleep, and rest, the patient seeks only cold. Heat is congested in the heart, with no means of release. If the body turns yellow and the whites of the eyes take on the color of Phellodendron bark, this is acute jaundice.

Drug Formulation

5 liang of Pinellia (from Xiongzhou; wash in boiling water to remove the slime until the liquid is completely drained), 3 liang of Dried Ginger, 2 liang of Evodia, 1 liang of Cinnamon Bark, 3 liang of Atractylodes, 3 liang of Asarum, 3 liang of Bupleurum, 3 liang of Peony Bark, 5 liang of Rhubarb, and 2 liang of Mirabilite.

Instructions for Use

Boil 1 dou of water down to 3 sheng, strain out the dregs, add芒消, and stir until it dissolves completely. Divide into three warm doses; each dose should be taken after walking a distance of 10 li. If a bowel movement occurs after taking one dose, the patient must be closely monitored and cared for; do not administer any further decoctions or medications. Instead, grind millet into a juice and administer it slowly. If excessive diarrhea is observed, it can be stopped by feeding the patient rice porridge; thick, fermented rice porridge is also acceptable.

Note

Avoid mutton, malt syrup, raw scallions, raw vegetables, peaches and plums, sparrow meat, and cilantro.
