Drug Formulation

Rosin (preferably tender, white, and flaky; grind into a fine powder and sift; rub a copper basin thoroughly with lard; fill with water and bring to a rolling boil; add the rosin and stir continuously until it sinks to the bottom; immediately pour into cold water and pull and stretch it about a hundred times until it no longer breaks) 1 jin; sesame oil 3 liang.

Processing

Heat the sesame oil until a drop of it forms a bead when dropped into water; add the rosin and melt it over low heat. Remove from heat once the desired consistency is reached; while still hot, slowly add 5 qian each of pure rice bran and pure bismuth subchlorate, stirring with a willow branch until thoroughly mixed. If the mixture is too thick, add 2–3 qian of rendered lard.
