Drug Formulation

1 white-spotted snake (select one with a head shaped like a dragon’s and a mouth like a tiger’s; authentic specimens have black skin with white spots, a tail resembling a Buddha’s fingernail, and eyes that are not sunken; wash thoroughly with wine until thoroughly moistened, remove bones and spines, and use 4 liang of the flesh), 2 liang of authentic Qianghuo, 2 liang of Angelica sinensis root, 2 liang of authentic Tianma, 2 liang of authentic Qin Jiao, 2 liang of Acanthopanax bark, and 1 liang of Fangfeng.

Processing

Chop all ingredients evenly, place them in a raw silk bag, and suspend the bag inside a Jinhua wine jar. Submerge the bag in five jars of raw glutinous rice wine, seal the jar tightly with bamboo leaves, and place the jar inside a large pot. Boil in water for one day, then remove and bury the jar in a shaded area for seven days before retrieving it.

Instructions for Use

Drink 1–2 cups each time. Dry the dregs in the sun, then grind them into a paste with glutinous rice wine to form pills the size of a paulownia seed. Take 50 pills at a time, washed down with the wine used for boiling.

Note

Avoid exposure to drafts, sexual activity, and foods that induce wind, such as fish, lamb, goose, and pork.
