Drug Formulation
4 liang of white sand honey (preferably white in color; take 1 year-old scallion, remove the roots and skin, cut into short pieces, and simmer with the honey; remove the white membrane; cook until the scallion is soft and tender; filter the residue through cotton; let it settle; use paper to remove the wax film),3 qian of Orpiment (water-washed, used raw), 3 qian of Tosa Honey (water-washed, used raw), and 5 qian of Calcined Zinc Oxide (calcined, water-washed).Boil the above three ingredients, grind into an extremely fine powder, and pour into the honey prepared earlier. Add one branch of peach wood without knots or blemishes and one branch of willow wood without knots or blemishes, then stir until well blended), 5 qian of Angelica sinensis, 5 qian of red peony root, 5 qian of apricot kernels (blanched to remove skin and tips), 2 liang of Coptis (with root base and fibrous parts removed and thoroughly cleaned), half a liang of Chuanxiong, 3 qian of Qinpi,3 qian of Chebulic Myrobalan bark, 3 qian of Fangfeng, 3 qian of Gypsum, 3 qian of Xuanjing Stone (preferably with a pattern resembling an animal’s back), 3 qian of Well Spring Stone, 3 qian of an unnamed mineral, 3 qian of Scrophularia, 3 qian of Daizhashi, and 3 qian of Oyster Shell (the 10 ingredients from Qinpi to Oyster Shell should be coarsely chopped; use 5 sheng of snowmelt or flowing river water in a silver vessel and boil down to 2 sheng,strain out the dregs, then boil down to 1 sheng. Add the 15 ingredients to the 1 sheng of decoction, then pour in the reserved medicinal honey. Simmer together in a silver vessel over low heat until the mixture turns purplish-gold, then add the remaining ingredients and stir evenly until fully incorporated), Frankincense 3 qian, Myrrh 3 qian, Amber 3 qian, Cinnabar (sifted separately) 3 qian,3 qian of Rui seeds (weigh 3 qian with the husk; remove the husk and use only the kernels. First, dry-grind the first four ingredients until fine; then add the Rui seeds that have been water-washed, and grind them together until fine. Strain to remove any residue, then water-wash again; repeat until the mixture is clear. Only then pour it into the previously prepared purplish-gold decoction and simmer together for 1–2 boils,until a drop of the mixture, when dipped with chopsticks into water, does not disperse—generally, avoid making it too thick or too thin. Remove from heat, bury in soil for 7 days, then take out and place in a silver container or porcelain vessel. Store according to proper methods, then add the following fine ingredients. When pouring in the ingredients, use peach or willow twigs to stir evenly), Southern Borax 1 qian, Pearl 1 qian, Borneol 1 qian, Coral Branch 1 qian,half a qian of musk (boil and grind the above five ingredients to a very fine powder; mix thoroughly with peach or willow twigs, then pour into the previous mixture and stir evenly).

Instructions for Use
Prepare and seal on the first day of the first lunar month. Seal the opening of the container with paper and use as needed. If any medicine remains in the original container, rinse it thoroughly with clean water, then boil the rinsed liquid 3–5 times. Set this aside separately; it may be used to wash the eyes or to thin the ointment if it becomes too thick.
Note
Use firewood from mulberry or Chinese juniper trees for preparation.
