Drug Formulation

2 liang of cinnabar in granules, 2 wild boar hearts, 3 liang of lamp wick.

Processing

Cut open the pig hearts, place the cinnabar and lamp wicks inside, tie them shut with hemp thread, and boil them in a silver or stone vessel for one fu. Remove them; discard the pig hearts and lamp wicks. Grind the cinnabar into a very fine powder. Mix it with 2 liang of genuine Poria cocos powder, which has been boiled in wine to form a thin paste, and shape into pills the size of a Paulownia seed.

Effective for all forms of shock, anxiety, and worry; restlessness at night; vague and disoriented dreams; and frequent forgetfulness; as well as deficiency of heart qi and epilepsy with delirium.

Instructions for Use

Take 9–15 pills per dose, increasing to 21 pills if necessary; take with a decoction of Ophiopogon japonicus (with the core removed). For severe epilepsy, take with a decoction of Frankincense and Ginseng; for restless sleep or frequent chaotic dreams, take with a decoction of roasted Ziziphus jujuba seeds.
