Drug Formulation

4 liang of Sophora flavescens, 3 liang of Mentha, 3 liang of Angelica dahurica, 2 liang of Saposhnikovia divaricata,4 liang of Mustard Spikes, 4 liang of Forsythia, 3 liang of Atractylodes, 3 liang of Rhubarb, 3 liang of Herba Eupatorii, 4 liang of Clematis, 5 liang of White Fresh Bark, 5 liang of Gallnut, 10 liang of Maple Seeds, 6 qian of Indigo Powder, 120 liang of Beeswax, and 20 jin of Sesame Oil (or Soybean Oil).

Processing

First, grind all the herbs into a fine powder and soak them in the oil for one day and one night. Then, fry them over low heat until they turn dark yellow. Strain to remove the residue, remove from heat (except for the Indigo Powder), weigh the mixture, and mix in the white wax while still hot. In spring and fall, mix 4 liang of wax per jin of medicated oil; in winter, mix 3 liang; and in summer, mix 5 liang.Add the indigo powder last, at a ratio of 5 fen per jin of medicinal oil; stir thoroughly and allow to cool into a paste.
