Drug Formulation

Half liang of Indigo Powder, 1 fen of melon seed pod, 1 fen of cinnabar (water-washed), 1 fen of mercury oxide, 3 cicada shells (cleaned of dirt), 1 fen of realgar (water-washed), 1 fen of aloe, 1 fen of Coptis chinensis, 1 fen of bear bile (dissolved), and a small amount of musk.

Processing

Grind the ingredients into a fine powder, then use pig bile to form pills the size of a paulownia seed; store them in a porcelain box.

Instructions for Use

For all types of convulsions, epilepsy, and wind-related disorders—including convulsions accompanied by rolling the eyes upward—dissolve one pill in warm water, drip it into the nostrils to induce a sneeze, and then take another pill dissolved in peppermint water; for chronic diarrhea, abdominal distension, a distended abdomen, thin legs, and various forms of malnutrition, take it dissolved in rice water; for malnutrition caused by roundworm bites, take it with a decoction of Chinese toon seeds;For malnutrition-induced mouth sores and nasal ulcers, grind breast milk into a paste and apply it; for night blindness caused by malnutrition, take one slice of white sheep’s liver, split it open with a bamboo knife, grind the medicine into a powder, mix it into the liver slice, wrap it in hemp cloth, boil it in rice water until cooked, and consume on an empty stomach.

Nursing mothers should always avoid fish, garlic, chicken, duck, and pork.
