Drug Formulation

Angelica sinensis (remove the root tip; soak in good wine overnight; sun-dry) 7 qian, Paeonia lactiflora (remove one layer of coarse bark; moisten with honey water; steam and sun-dry three times) 6 qian, Rehmannia glutinosa (steamed with Amomum villosum for one fu) 7 qian,Chuanxiong (soaked thoroughly in east-flowing water, chopped into slices, mixed with Artemisia annua, steamed for the duration of one incense stick, then sun-dried) 6 qian, Melia azedarach seeds (roasted on a willow wood fire in a tile-lined pan until dry; then mixed with fine wine and steamed until thoroughly permeated; once the skin softens, remove the skin and kernel; take the flesh, boil in water for one fu, then sun-dried) 6 qian,Aconite Root (select a piece weighing 1 liang 6–7 qian; soak in a mixture of raw and boiled water for half a day, ensuring the vapor does not escape; remove and wrap in white lime, changing the wrapping several times until dry; coat the exterior with barley flour; roast in willow wood ash until the skin splits; once cooled, remove the flour and skin, then split open) 3 qian,Phellodendron Bark (select pieces about one cun thick; remove the coarse outer bark; for every liang, mix 3 qian of honey with water and apply it to the bark; roast until the color turns completely yellow) 7 qian.

Instructions for Use

Boil in 3 sheng of water over low heat until reduced to 2 sheng; strain out the residue. Simmer again over low heat until reduced to 1.5 sheng. Divide into 3 warm doses: take one dose before the attack begins, one during the attack, and one after the attack has subsided.
