Drug Formulation

4 qian of peacock tail (wash with licorice water, rub with a pinch of soil, wash again with water, sun-dry, and grind into a fine powder; the rounded tip is particularly effective), 2 qian of frankincense, 2 qian of myrrh (both oil-free and purified),cent 2 of centipede, cent 2 of whole scorpion, cent 2 of magnetite (calcined), cent 2 of musk, cent 2 of mole cricket (sun-dried), cent 2 of realgar (soaked in vinegar, then boiled in white radish juice), cent 2 of cinnabar, cent 5 of mercury, liang 2 qian 5 fen of sodium nitrate, and liang 2 qian 5 fen of sulfur.

Processing

Grind the ingredients into a fine powder. Take a porcelain bowl and, using a spoon, scoop about one qian of the powder into the bowl. Roast it over a lamp flame until the granules vary in size like grains of rice, taking care not to let them burn or dry out. Store in a porcelain jar for future use.

Instructions for Use

For each condition, apply the medicine to the affected area and moxibustion it over a flame. Avoid drafts during moxibustion; if suffering from wind-induced pain throughout the body, apply the medicine to the joints and perform warm moxibustion. For severe cases, avoid drafts for 7 days after treatment.
