Drug Formulation

20 liang of Southern Toseng (ground into powder), 2 liang of Red Peony Root, 2 liang of Whole Angelica Root, 5 qian of Frankincense (oil removed, ground), 5 qian of Myrrh (oil removed, ground), 2 liang of Red Cinnabar (ground), 4 liang of Sophora Root, 2 liang of Hundred-Grass Ash (sifted, ground),1 liang of Yin You, 2 jin of tung oil, 1 jin of sesame oil, 5 qian of dragon’s blood (ground), 5 qian of child’s tea (ground), and half a jin of Sichuan rhubarb.

Processing

First, add red peony root, Chinese angelica root, sophora root, and rhubarb to the oil and dry-fry until the mixture does not disperse when a drop of water is added. Then add the powdered to-seng, and stir with locust or willow twigs until a drop of water begins to form a bead. Sift the herb ash finely into the mixture and stir until uniform. Next, sift in the remaining herbs and silver-black, stir until thoroughly blended, pour into a water basin, then transfer to a porcelain basin, and keep it constantly moistened with water.
