Xiao Ling Dan,Deficiency of the True Essence, depletion of vital essence, insufficiency of vital energy; dark complexion, scorched-looking ears, heaviness in the lower back and knees, bladder hernias and masses, numbness in the hands and feet, stiffness of tendons and bones, pain in the chest and abdomen, cold-induced accumulation and diarrhea, intestinal wind, hemorrhoids and fistulas, the Eight Winds and Five Bi Syndromes, dizziness and blurred vision,inability to eat, mental confusion, fatigue and excessive sleep, gradually developing into a chronic exhaustion syndrome; in women, prolonged coldness of the uterus leading to infertility, red and white vaginal discharge, irregular menstruation, and wind-cold affecting the blood and qi.

Drug Formulation

4 liang of Daizhashi, 4 liang of Chishizhi, 4 liang of Zishiying, and 4 liang of Yuyuliangshi.

Processing

Calcine each of the above herbs over a fire until red-hot, then quench them in rice vinegar seven times each. Grind them together into a fine powder, mix them in a small sand box,seal the exterior with a mixture of salt and mud, dry in the sun, then calcine over 20 jin of charcoal until the charcoal is completely consumed. Remove the box, dig a pit in moist ground, bury it for one fu, then excavate and grind for three days until extremely fine. Next, add 2 liang of frankincense (ground separately), 2 liang of myrrh (ground separately), and 2 liang of Wulingzhi (finely ground).Combine these four ingredients with the previous four and grind them together until thoroughly uniform. Boil glutinous rice cakes in water until tender, then place them in an iron mortar and pound into pills the size of a chicken’s head; air-dry them in the shade.
