Morphological Characteristics
Body length is approximately 18 mm; wingspan is 45–65 mm. The head is small; the compound eyes are blackish-brown, round, and protruding; the mouthparts are siphon-like; the labial palps are particularly well-developed; and the antennae are club-shaped.The thorax is black, covered with long gray hairs intermixed with long, fine white hairs. In females, the gray-black portion at the base of the wings accounts for nearly half the wing’s length, and the wing tips bear triangular black spots. In males, the gray-black area is confined to the wing base, and the gray-black portion at the wing tips is paler. Females generally have deeper and more distinct coloration than males. The legs are slender and long; the abdomen is small and slender, with a slightly pointed tip, and is densely covered with white scales.
