Benefits
Parasitic Ascites, Hematic Ascites. Parasites are entangled within the blood; the complexion is pale yellow with red spots or red streaks; there is isolated abdominal distension and fullness; abdominal pain occurs before eating but subsides after eating; there is no swelling in the limbs or hands and feet; urination is normal and appetite is good; the patient survives for several years without dying; this is not water-induced ascites.
Instructions for Use
Decoct in water and take orally. After one dose, rumbling sounds will surely occur in the abdomen; shortly thereafter, a bucketful of foul matter will be expelled—resembling blood or pus, or containing worms with heads but no legs, or appearing purple or black in color. Take another dose, and there will be severe diarrhea and purgation, after which no foul matter will remain.Thereafter, administer 1 qian of ginseng, 5 qian of Poria, 1 liang of coix seed, 2 liang of Chinese yam, 1 qian of white mustard seed, 5 fen of tangerine peel, and 2 qian of white atractylodes to restore health and stability.
Note
Salt must be avoided for one month. In cases of bloating caused by worms and blood, if the patient has a weak stomach, this formula—though it emphasizes tonification over purgation—should not be used lightly.
